One more Goodbye

We had to let Grizzy go last night. Chuck took him in to the vet for a growth on his side that had ruptured. The vet suspected it was a malignant tumor and thought he might have others. She was right. When they put him under and x-rayed, they found a "lemon-sized" tumor on his heart and a few other tumors in his lungs. They said the kindest thing to do was to not wake him up. If the tumor on his heart were to rupture, it would be a "very bad death". He was 13 1/2 years old and barely hobbling around, so we knew his time was nearing to a close, but no matter how prepared you are, it's devastating.

Mya had grown very attached to him and would constantly say, "Grizzy, treat" and bravely hold out a biscuit as he nibbled away at her little hand.

His ears were so soft as I kissed him goodbye.

No more death for me. That's it. Everyone and everything better stay healthy. Stop smoking. Eat your vegetables. Drive sensibly. Don't step out in front of buses. Don't bungee jump. Don't do drugs (except in moderation). Stay home, watch tv, and eat brussel sprouts, dammit!

Oh, I'm so sorry. Even when you know it's coming and you know it's for the best it is still just horrible...

Oh Tina...how horrible. I'm so so so sorry. When you take a pet to the vet, you always expect to bring them home.

Good thoughts coming your way.

I know exactly how you feel. I had to put my dog down (what a weird expression) back in October and I STILL get weepy from time to time. Though it didn't help the weepiness, this book helped:

Be brave!

Yeah, I agree, you've had more than your share. Obviously, Grizzy had a great doggie life and will have a great doggie afterlife. I'm sure you'll meet him again one day, perhaps in the form of a person, a tree or a butterfly.

My doggie is getting older too so I'm trying to prepare myself, but like you said, there is probably no way to not feel the hurt.

Take care...

I'm so sorry, Tina. December 30th, we brought our golden retriever to the vet and were faced with the same situation. He was 13, too. It was one of the hardest things we ever had to do. *hugs*

Me again. When the feelings well up and you need a good cry, go Google "Rainbow Bridge."

It is quite enough, isn't it? I would agree.

May Grizzy rest in peace and those he rest with play with his fuzzy ears.

Sentimental Favorites have a song about our dog, Nicky. Still makes me sad.

I know it's hard... I've been there and I'm sorry. It sounds like you're wonderful parents - if and when you find a new little one to love I wish you all the best.
