Holy crap, registering for baby stuff is ulcerating. It literally feels like you are making life or death decisions.
For example, while we were at Babies R Us registering (I LOVE scanning barcodes - boop, boop, boop), we registered for this Papasan cradle swing. It looks really cool, right? And it swings from side to side or right to left. Then, online, I read the reviews:
"Then I realized the swing started smoking, so I imediately took her out of the swing and threw it ousde when the dial part went up in flames!"
"I found her once with her head hanging over the side of the swing still belted in and a few days later my son saw her belted in with her head hanging off the front."
AAAGGHH! So I was going to let someone buy this death trap for my child!
I'm going to go cough up blood now, for I am sure I am going to choose a stroller that is prone to roll away on it's own, find the nearest bar and order Lauren a vodka on the rocks - to be put into a baby bottle that will certainly cause her to need braces later in life.

delurking for a minute to tell you that we have that swing and nothing has happened to our little guy (he's 5 months and spent a little time in the NICU as well! but is right as rain now!). however, I would not recommend that swing for different reasons. it's not good for later, which, to me, is a waste of money and space! he didn't use it for very long and now doesn't really like it since he can't sit up properly and see the world. He's a little nosey like that! There are better swings, I think, that would allow Lauren to look around more when she's more interestsed in what's happening around her. Every swing that you look at, though, will have a dozen naysayers. just choose the one YOU like!

Oh, yes, registering... We changed at least half of our registry after reading reviews on Amazon. It was so much worse than registering for wedding gifts! We've been pretty happy with our Graco open-top swing. Heck, you could just borrow it if you want. ;)
And I'm so excited that you're registering, because it means Lauren will be coming home soon!
Graaco makes a papasan bouncy seat (not a swing) that looks similar to the swing. The chair vibreates and plays music. I bought 2 for my friends' twin girls. They have been a lifesaver for her.
We have the Aquarium swing that is similar to that one but actually sits up 2 different positions. Our son LOVES it b/c it swings side to side. A friend has it as well and neither of us have had problems with it and it has swung many many many miles.
American Baby Mag does a yearly "AMBY" awards issue that may prove helpful in your registry:

Uncommon Goods has delicious not-so-practical baby stuff. If I have a girl, she MUST have the Maryjane socks:

Don't fret! It's supposed to be fun!
I received that swing as a shower gift. I like it, but my pediatrician told me not to put baby in it until she's 4 to 6 weeks old. The reason was because the baby's neck muscles aren't strong enough before then. The only thing I don't like about it is that I think it swings really fast.
Swings were never a real hit at our house, but I would definitely add another vote for the 'vibrating' seat...
...and start investing in batteries
i started researching both times i found out i was pregnant so when I hit that 8 month mark I was ready. And both times I ended up in the hospital afterwards for contractions...IT'S STRESSFUL! But I wanted to say TOTAL CONGRATS...that baby is so precious and you will bond sooo well now that you're home!
Congratulations! We're another household that liked the bouncer but didn't use the swing much. Another great baby item: the Amby Baby hammock. When the little ones move, the hammock swings a little and lulls them back to sleep. We loved it, baby loved it, and our friends babies loved it too.

So happy that your baby is home with you. :)
this is the first time i've visited your site (via lycfyi) but i was instantly transported back almost 2 years ago with our daughter. She was born at 28 weeks and spent a long 31 days in the hospital. I see that you did the kangaroo kare and all. Now expecting our second in August we hope we go full term this time.
The contraptions that a baby accumulates is nuts! I have 4 rubbermaid bins FULL of clothes she's too big for and another bin of clothes she's too small for.
I suggest to not get sucked in with the new fangled contraptions and don't be a stranger to the baby consignment stores for baby stuff gets costly after a while.
ps- i spen two hours in babys r us when i was registering and i got... 5 items out of it.
Home. Such a lovely word.
Read about the homecoming on ljcfyi and wanted to say congratulations! You must be relieved and very excited. Welcome home baby Lauren!
